Headache Treatment
Q & A

Migraine headaches are episodes of acute pain that typically affect one side of your head. In addition to the intense pain they cause, you may also experience symptoms such as weakness, nausea and vomiting, visual impairment, and a sensitivity to light and sounds. Some people suffer from migraines sporadically, while others experience them on a regular basis. The symptoms of a migraine might be so debilitating that it's hard to walk, work, and go about the daily activities in your life.
Migraine headaches can be triggered by a variety of factors, including:

• Changes in the weather Menstruation
• Certain foods such as processed meats and aged cheese
• Consuming excessive amounts of caffeine
• Alcohol intake, especially red wine
• Changes in sleep patterns
• Acute stress or exhaustion
In order to treat your headaches, we must first diagnose the underlying cause. Dr. Rehan Ali will go over your medical history, review your symptoms, and may order an imaging test such as an MRI to ensure nothing more serious is going on.

Over-the-counter medications are generally successful at treating periodic headaches caused by stress or illness, but they can prove to be less effective for more severe headaches. Preventive medications may also be prescribed to decrease the occurrence or intensity of your headaches. A popular treatment option that is FDA-approved and is proven to be effective at dealing with chronic migraines is Botox. This procedure involves small injections that are preformed rapidly and cause little pain. Patients will typically see results after just a few sessions.
If you suffer from migraines, you can learn to recognize and avoid your triggers, whether they range from red wine, specific odors, or increased stress. For instance, dehydration and stress headaches can be prevented by learning to manage stress and drinking plenty of water. It’s recommended that you keep a journal to track your headaches and help determine what some of your triggers might be.
